Personal Bio of a NW Realtor     ‘the lighter side’

Born hairless in Anchorage, Alaska, weighing in at a robust 4lbs., having none of the luxuries such as finger nails, eyelashes or eyebrows, I started my life. Without any expectations, it didn’t seem abnormal to me to be placed in a large glass aquarium for the first 6-8 weeks of my life. Who cares if chicken eggs are hatched in the same type enclosure? It was quite a crushing blow to my mother, while looking through the glass window at her firstborn whom she thought was beautiful, to hear an observer ask while looking at that ‘hairless’ creature: “Look honey, could that be a monkey?” Anyway mom got over it, and took me home in a shoe box, which was bed to me for the next few months. About the time that I was two years of age, my mother left Alaska with myself & my younger brother (Mike was 1), leaving my father (he evidently had serious fatherhood issues) and headed to a better life. Soon thereafter, she married a man named Mackey (the only dad I ever knew). Father Mackey had 3 kids of his own (a daughter age 5 & two sons, ages 2 & 3). Anyway, an instant circus was born: 4 boys, ages 1,2,2 &3 and my sister Renee, age 5 (poor girl). To cut the story short, mom & dad must not have figured out what the heck was causing our family to grow, because they added Lisa, Dennis, David, Tim, Laura & Andy. That’s right 4 more boys and 2 more girls. Wow, we had our own baseball team. No we weren’t Catholic! Anyway, you thought the bathroom lines at the Kingdome were long; you should have seen the line-up before school in the morning at the door of our only bathroom, ‘claw foot’ tub and all.

I left home at 17, seemed like the thing to do at the time, met my future wife, Sheila, got married a year later at 18 (also seemed like the thing to do at the time...afterall we were adults weren't we?) and started our family (2 son’s) a couple of years later. Still married to my child bride?? ...yep, who else would have me?

My work history: Started working for a small lighting company here in Seattle at age 17, eventually becoming their ‘outside’ builder rep, serving the needs of builders and their clients, providing lighting and hardware to homes around Puget Sound. After 8 years, I continued in the same capacity with a local company named Seattle Lighting here in Bellevue for the next 11 years. Then a bright idea came to me: Why don’t I give up a job where I have a steady income, with repeat customers every month, having weekends and evenings off and I’ll start a career in Real Estate. Then, I’ll get to work at least 27 to 30 days a month (weekends & evenings included), with a repeat customer every 6 or 7 years or so (or If you help them purchase a really spectacular property, they may even stay longer), having no guaranteed income and lots of expenses. Sometimes, I wonder if when I was born, that instead of just having no hair, fingernails, eyebrows and lashes, that my brain missed a developmental stage as well.

Seriously, I truly love my job and am sincerely proud to be working with a great company and the best group of people in the industry. I’ve learned a lot the past 17 years that I’ve been in real estate (all with CBBA) and look forward to continuing a rewarding career (hopefully, I’ll live long enough). I’m thankful for the fantastic clients that I’ve been able to assist with the purchasing and/or selling of their homes. I’m also appreciative and very thankful for their continued support by their referring me to their friends & family for further real estate assistance.

Still lovin' life,                        Stan Mackey,  The Mackey Team
